Expertly crafted by a master sculptor, this 15.5" H Mali African Marka Janus-Faced Mask exhibits exquisite detail and is adorned with striking red tassels on its crest. With a rich history closely tied to the Bamana people, the Marka use masks for cultural ceremonies and rituals, despite heavy Islamization in present day. This piece may be associated with the N'Tomo initiation mask for young boys, as seen in similar Bamana traditions. While some minor losses are present, this mask is in overall excellent condition as shown in the accompanying pictures.
