This superb Large Wood Helmet Mask is part of the traditional Yoruba Gelede Masquerade. It is 13" in height, 9” in width, and 12" in depth and is painted and covered in pigment with an elaborate superstructure. It remains in good condition with only light signs of wear. Gelede combines masks, costumes, art, and dance to honor mothers, female ancestors, and deities. Men usually perform the masquerade.
