This Marionette Bozo Mask is a superb hand-carved piece made from a single block of wood, depicting a colorful and fun bird/rooster from the Niger and Bani rivers in Segou, Mali. It measures 24" in height, 6" in width, and 20.25" in depth. This traditional puppet theater, performed by the village youth association, features brightly painted and costumed puppets, and is a joint effort between Bamana farmers and Bozo fishermen. However, according to oral tradition, it originated with the Bozo people, who are descendants of the medieval Ghana Empire's Soninke rulers and the area's original inhabitants. Add this bright and marvelous Marionette Bozo Mask to your home and collection.
