This Famille Rose snuff bottle is superbly hand painted and decorated with lotus flowers, a symbol of purity, rebirth, and strength. Measuring 3.75"h by 2"w by 0.75"D, it is signed at the back.

Snuff bottles were utilized by the Chinese and Mongolians in the Qing Dynasty to store powdered tobacco - a practice sanctionned as smoking was prohibited at the time, and snuff seen as remedy for a number of illnesses, e.g. colds, headaches, and stomach issues.
