#6314 Ceremonial Skirt Kirdi Beaded Cache Sex Pikuran Cameroon

This exquisite skirt or apron is meticulously hand-beaded with white and red  colors, measuring 16" wide and 36" wide with the strips  by 8.5" high. Among certain Cameroonian communities, women traditionally wore pubic aprons, known as 'caches sexes'—meaning 'to hide the sex'—until around 1961, when laws mandated full clothing. Despite this, the custom endures through elaborately beaded versions still worn today. In the Mandara mountains region, Matakam women crafted these aprons from small  strips secured by fiber belts, reflecting a rich cultural heritage.
