#6140 Vintage Asian Porcelain Opium Pillow

Vintage Asian  Resting Opium  Pillow  , hand painted with geometric green design on the side with blue and open work  decor etc...These pillows were used in opium dens in China from the 19th century onwards. People would put their money and valuables under the pillow or through the hole, and would lay down to smoke their opium. . The smokers claimed that the opium made the pillow feel as soft as a cloud and the warmth the opium brought would counteract the coolness of the porcelain. It is unsigned.This charming piece is approximately 4.5" w by x 5.5” tall x 2.5” deep
