This 13.5" h PUNU helmet mask features a finely crafted coiffure and face painted in white kaoline. It has a very nice patina and embodies the link between life and death in African beliefs. Predominantly feminine, scarification patterns, aka mabinda, adorn the surface in a distinctive style and position that can vary between ethnic groups - usually inscribed on children aged 10-14.
