This exquisite vintage Benin Bronze Head of Oba from Nigeria is a remarkable piece, standing at a height of 19 inches, with a width of 7.5 inches and a depth of 9 inches. Although there may be some minor cast imperfections, the overall condition is still excellent. These Benin heads were typically placed on altars as a tribute to the divine ancestry of the great king, or OBA. The bronze casters guild, established in the 15th or 16th century, primarily created art for the royal family, with smaller pieces also available for chiefs. Using the lost-wax technique, each Benin casting is uniquely crafted, making it a one-of-a-kind piece.
