This mask is a part of a traditional masquerade that originates from the Bamana city of Segou and the Bozo area of Mopti. It is performed by young men during the Sogo ba festival, in which youth groups showcase their talents in singing, dancing, drumming, and puppetry. Despite being entertaining, the performances also serve as a commentary on the moral universe and human imperfections. They aim to educate people on ethical behavior, religious practices, and maintaining social and familial harmony.
