This vintage Dogon granary door from Mali showcases exceptional carved relief artistry, featuring four standing chiwaras flanking the sides and crocodiles and symbolic breast imagery in the center, all framed borders. At an impressive 31" wide × 74" tall (71" without hinges) and 3" deep, this monumental statement piece embodies the refined craftsmanship of traditional Dogon culture.
Chiwara—a mythical figure part human and part antelope or anteater—holds sacred significance in Bamana (Bambara) heritage, credited with teaching the people the art of farming. This door carries that cultural legacy in every carved detail.
