The Marka, living in Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso are neighbors of the Bamana. Today they are heavily Islamized, however they often retain the use of masks and figures for ceremonies and rituals closely related to the Bamana. This mask covered with sheet brass is probably related to the N'Tomo initiation mask for young boys found among the Bamana. It is uniquely Marka by the brass sheet covering the face. This mask was carved by a master sculptor.
