Fantastic  African Guro Mask with 2 CRANES  from Guro, Kweni on the Ivory Coast. This hand carved mask painted with brown   pigments 

It measures approximately 25" high by 7" w by 4" d

 and has great patina. 

It features a pair of cranes on the top / headdress. It has a rim around the inside and holes where string or straps could be attached to hold the mask on to the wearer.  The Crane is generally thought to be a symbol of love and happiness. The Crane is believed to be a symbol of fidelity as it usually mates for Birds are free to roam to earth and the sky. Many cultures believe that they are a symbol of eternal life; the link between heaven and earth. Some parts of Africa see the Crane as a symbol that is associated with wisdom. Ritual and ceremonial masks are an essential feature of the traditional culture of the peoples of Sub-saharan Africa
