#6006 Superb Set of Two Benin Leopards Bronze Nigeria African

This set of two bronze Benin Leopards from Nigeria features a standing leopard measuring 5" D by 5.25" H by 2" W and a seated leopard measuring 5.5" D by 4.5" H by 2.5" W. These sculptures are crafted using the lost wax technique, resulting in unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. The Benin Kingdom, established in 1300 by the son of an Ife king, flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries. It is believed that Portuguese traders brought metalworking techniques to Benin during this time. Today, the Edo and Yoruba people of Benin continue to create art inspired by these esteemed historical artifacts, which date back to the 12th to 15th centuries.
